ACE Approach
To solve before-and-after problem sums, the learner has to be able to identify the “At First” case or the “End” case and work with the “Change” to arrive at the solution. If “End” is given then work backwards.
Spot the strategy!
Some questions are plain give-away because it’s the type that is easily associated with the strategy to use to solve. Like this case, once it’s age-related, you know it will involve the Unchanged Difference as a first step to start solving.
Know the approaches.
It takes alot of practice & exposure in order for a child to learn about the many approaches to solving sums. The good news is that your child will learn this progressively over the years.
